For the past 17 years, Newport's true "surfer's event" has kept its focus on the local competitor. The Newport Classic has a rich history of providing excellent amateur AND pro/am competition. At one point it even held a WQS 4-star rating, attracting some of the world's best surfers to compete at the renowned beachbreak of 54th-56th Street.

Despite the presence of big-name pros, the local community divisions remain the core of this unique event which allows next-generation stars and local rivals an opportunity to battle it out in their own backyard.
